"A special type of person, with heart, vision and the desire to do something good without expecting anything in return"

Volunteers are the heart of SoléAna Stables. Whether you simply enjoy helping others, have a love of horses or are talented in other ways, we have a place for you!

Volunteering at SoléAna Stables is more than donating time and service – its about donating love, compassion and a willingness to play an active role in the success of our Riders. Simply put: we would not exist without the dedication, loyalty, and hard work of our Volunteers.

There are many individual reasons why people volunteer at SoléAna Stables but all provide the chance to join a thriving, nurturing community whose mission is to enrich the lives of people with special needs through the healing power of horses.

Choose Where You Can Help

As a Volunteer you may choose from a variety of activities depending on your interests and abilities.

    • Each Rider requires between 1-3 Volunteers to assist during their lesson and ensure a safe riding environment.

    • Be a HORSE LEADER -Responsible for the care of the horse before, during and after the lesson. This includes grooming, tacking and warming up. Horse Leaders help ensure the safety of the horse and Rider during lessons.

    • Be a SIDEWALKER -Responsible for the safety of the Rider. Helps fit Riders with helmets prior to entering arena, walks beside the Rider and horse during lessons, offers physical and emotional support to the Rider, and reinforces the Instructor’s directions.

  • BARN

    • Be a BARN STORMER -Oversees the needs of the horses between lessons. Provides water for horses, assists with tack and tack cleaning, and general barn chores.

    • Be a GREETER -Greets Riders and Volunteers, monitors Volunteer sign-in process and helps fit Riders with helmets as needed.

    • Be an EQUINE & LESSON ASSISTANT -Helps Instructor set up arena for lessons, helps with general horse care and assists with farrier and veterinarian visits (during non-lesson days).

    Volunteer Guidelines

    • Minimum age for Volunteers is 14.

    • Volunteers 18 and older must pass a background check. SoléAna Stables cannot accept applicants into our Volunteer program who have been arrested for, or convicted of, crimes against persons and/or animals.

    •  ALL Lesson Volunteers are required to attend a comprehensive New Volunteer Training Session prior to participating in the program.

    • Volunteering in therapeutic riding lessons involves moderate physical activity.

    • Lesson Volunteers do not need to have previous horse experience but a level of comfort with horses is helpful.

Beyond the Barn Volunteering

If volunteering at the barn is not where you “shine”, there are many other opportunities to volunteer and use your talents!

  • BOARD MEMBER: Be a part of a team that is committed to the mission of SoléAna Stables and is passionate in bringing our program to even more families.

  • OUTREACH Team: Attend various local events to help promote SoléAna Stables and reach more families and future Volunteers.

  • OFFICE Volunteer: Assist staff with general office support such as research and data entry.

  • SPECIAL EVENTS Committee: Assist with our fundraising efforts throughout the year.

  • SPECIAL SKILLS Volunteer: Provide expertise in a variety of fields: photography/ videography, technology, grant writing, marketing, public relations and landscaping to name few.

Do you have another unique talent that our program could benefit from?

  • Are you a group that would like to come out for a work day?

  • Are you a Scout looking to complete your Gold Award or become an Eagle Scout?

We would love to hear about your special talents and how they can serve our Riders and community.

From students to retirees, Volunteers at SoléAna Stables do more than simply give their time. Volunteers have an opportunity to change lives, make lifelong friends and join a community of individuals intent on making a difference. We hope you will arrive ready to lend a hand and leave feeling like you have become a part of something much bigger than yourself.

We look forward to welcoming you into the

SoléAna Stables family.

The best part of volunteering at SoléAna Stables are the relationships we have formed with the Riders.

They are generally happy when they arrive and we see them smiling even more by the end of their lesson. It’s the best! It is awesome being a part of the SoléAna Stables family because it is a place where we see genuine love in action.
